Physician Wound Solutions
Wound Healing and Hyperbarics at Los Alamitos Medical Center provides expert assessment and management of all types of chronic wounds. Services are offered for outpatients with non-emergent, hard to heal wounds.
Physicians and patients work together to develop a healing plan. Patient involvement is key to healing and recovery. The recently opened center features five exam rooms and two hyperbaric chambers. It is dedicated to the comprehensive advanced treatment of problematic wounds. Once an in-depth assessment is complete, labs and tests may be ordered to provide information about blood and oxygen flow to the wound and possible infection. This approach will help determine the course of treatment for your specific wound type.
If a patient’s treatment outcomes can be enhanced by hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), a consultation with a hyperbaric physician can be scheduled. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a simple, non-invasive and painless way of delivering high doses of oxygen to the body. Patients breathe 100% oxygen while pressurized inside of a chamber. The pressure inside the chamber causes the oxygen the patient breathes to dissolve into the blood and diffuse into the tissues and fluids of the body.
Following are some indications for HBOT:
-
Diabetic foot wounds (Wagner grade III or higher)
-
Gas Gangrene
-
Acute traumatic peripheral ischemia
-
Crush injuries
-
Necrotizing Fasciitis
-
Acute peripheral arterial insufficiency
-
Osteomyelitis
-
Compromised grafts and flaps
-
Osteoradionecrosis
-
Soft Tissue radionecrosis
-
Actinomycosis
*Additional indications are available based upon individual health plans.
