Los Alamitos Medical Center is always looking for people who want to make a difference. A wide range of volunteer opportunities is available, including the gift shop, greeting visitors at the information desk, delivering flowers and mail, and escorting patients to name just a few. All proceeds from items sold in the gift shop go toward scholarships for local students pursuing careers in health care-related fields.
All volunteers must join the Los Alamitos Medical Center Auxiliary, pay dues of $10 per year, and commit to 100 hours of service per year. All volunteers wear a uniform consisting of a provided turquoise blue jacket to be worn with the volunteer’s own white shirt and pants, white shoes and socks. Auxiliary members must be 18 years or older and available year-round.
Key items to note:
Most, if not all, volunteer roles do not include patient contact. We do not allow nursing or other clinical students to volunteer in a clinical capacity.
Volunteer service rarely, if ever, leads to a paid position as a hospital employee.
We do not allow volunteer service in the pharmacy
There is no program for those under 18 years old.
Volunteers must be available year-round; the Auxiliary no longer has a program for summer and school breaks.
To become an Auxiliary member, please complete the volunteer application and/or call the Membership Chair at 562-799-3291. Once an application is received, our Membership Chair will contact interested parties to ascertain their availability and interests. She will provide an overview and description of what positions are open. Efforts are made to place a volunteer in a position best suited to their interest and needs.
To make a donation to the Auxiliary scholarship fund, make checks payable to LAMC Auxiliary and send to P.O. Box 533, Los Alamitos, CA 90720.
